Relationship with God

30 Days of Prayer- Day 1- Your Relationship with God

Welcome to the 30 Days of Prayer series!  It has been a huge blessing putting these next 30 days of posts together, and I hope you will enjoy them and find them helpful.

I just recently returned from a trip, and I feel the need to reboot my mind. Flying home on the plane, there were a lot of distractions, so I plugged in my headphones and started to listen. It was beginning to feel like a long flight, and I just couldn’t find a way to get to sleep. So, I took out my notepad and started to write down the lyrics that were resonating in my heart. About an hour into the flight, I was inspired to do a 30 day series on prayer.

There are so many things to pray for. If you’re like me, you struggle to find ways to effectively pray for them all. At times, it’s too overwhelming and it gets easy to put it off.

I’ve put together a 30 day prayer list. Please feel free to use it as a devotional tool, or whatever is the most helpful for you. I will share my own thoughts and ideas, share my personal heart around each one and then you can tailor each day’s prayer to your own personal life.

I am going to start with prayers we can pray over ourselves. It is just as important to feel okay with ourselves as it is to pray for those around us. In these first days of prayer, we can begin to get our minds into the habit of praying for things we are most familiar with and later move on to those needs around us too.

Starting today, I will begin with one piece at a time. If you are able, each day you can Add a new prayer to your list, or just focus on the PRAYER FOR that day.

Are you ready? Let’s get started!!

Day 1- Prayer over your relationship with God

It seems fitting to begin here, especially if you are challenged in this area. I’ve had some ups and downs over the last few months. Some things in my own life seem to be on hold, some things are changing quickly, and starting school while learning my new job has been, well…interesting! It’s been so hard to keep a consistent devotional life, and prayer hasn’t been as big a priority as I’d like it to be. Sadly, some weeks even Sundays have been a challenge…Yes, I said it.

Let me just say that I love my church community and I so enjoy gathering together with everyone every week, but depending on your personal situation, sometimes even things you love can be hard.

I used to be so confused when I heard people say that. I wondered, “How could church be anything but awesome?!” I think it happens to a lot of people. So, let’s be honest when we run up against times like that, and hopefully someone else will feel free to share their own stories with us.

When things get to be hard in life, even on Sunday, it is even more important to pray over our relationship with God.

There are going to be times in our lives when things aren’t feeling like a worship song, and that’s when it becomes more important than ever to stick close to our creator.

Today, let’s focus on praying over our relationship with God. It is important not to neglect the personal time with our Savior. We need to make time, no matter how busy we are, to sit in the peace of the Lord and rest.

If you are feeling perpetually busy and overwhelmed, I encourage you to pray over your relationship with God. Even if you feel like you aren’t motivated to spend time in prayer and reflection, pray for that motivation. Pray that God births in you that desire to connect with Him daily. God is faithful when we are honest with Him.

Here is my prayer for today:

Dear God,

I ask for the ability and desire to give you a part of each day. Help me to wake up early enough and stay distraction-free long enough to invite you into my morning. Lord, I ask you to forgive my complacency and I ask that you help me to adjust my schedule in a way that I find time to spend with you. Thank you for loving me in my weaknesses.

Amen
