30 Days of Prayer- Day 10- Your Household

Thanks for coming back to the tenth day in the series. Today we are going to cover our households with prayer!  Are you ready!?

This is a really far reaching prayer, covering a lot of different angles. Feel free to tailor your personal prayer to your own living situation. “Household” can mean whatever you take it to mean. Is it your physical home where you live with your family? Do you live with friends in an apartment? Are you currently living far away from home? Maybe when you hear that word, it includes a big extended family, or maybe it’s just you and your cats!

By praying over our households, we are asking God to bless the place where we spend most of our time, the place where our loved ones sleep at night, and the place where we live out our daily routines.

Day 10- Pray over your household

Let’s take a moment to address specific needs as to housing. If you are looking for a home, or trying to sell one, pray that God has his way in the transaction. A housing decision is a big one, and whether you are buying, renting, or maybe just staying with someone for awhile, it is important that God is involved. Ask God to show you how to go about choosing your next living situation.

If you are planning a move, ask God to protect and bless the place you are moving to, as well as the place you are right now.

Sometimes, living situations can be a challenge.

I have heard things from people who have difficult neighbors, and have been told stories about rental places that aren’t very nice. No problem is too big for your God.

I knew a family who needed to move from a very bad living situation in a hurry. Things had gotten very urgent and money seemed like it would be a major hurdle. They had no idea how they would find a new place in the town they lived in, much less how they would pay for the move and the expenses involved. Miraculously, a home was found, the money was quickly available, and they were able to move out of that place and into a new one in less than a month.

God knows your situation.

Maybe you know that the time has come for you to go somewhere new. Pray for things to happen in God’s timing, and that you find peace when you move into your new space.

Maybe you are happy where you are living.  That’s great!

If you are planning to stay where you are, you still can pray over your household. Pray that God protects your physical home and everyone living there.

Pray for protection over your physical structure.

Pray for protection against storms and natural disasters. Ask God to keep your home safe from damages or disasters. I know recently, there have been some earthquakes in our country, and while those do not happen where I live, there are always storms in the summer and I often pray when they are in the area that they stay away from us!

I like to pray that things in my house will last. We have been blessed with a new washer and dryer since we moved here a decade ago. We got a much more efficient water heater, and a newer fridge. All of the things we had to replace because the old ones stopped working, but we had the ability to find inexpensive ways to replace them when quit. All were quite old and had worked faithfully for a very long time.

Disruption that happens when things suddenly stop working is sometimes very chaotic. We can pray that repairs like this happen without major incidents, at relatively convenient times. Ask God to protect your home and allow the things you have to continue to function properly.

We covered praying for peace in day four.

Part of praying over our households should involve peace as well.

When we pray about our living space, we can pray that our home would be a peaceful place where we can find time to spend with Him. Ask God to allow peace to fill your home and that any negativity is covered by His presence. Ask God to help you to live peacefully, and to feel comforted and safe where you are staying.

I believe that God wants us to be at peace in all areas of our lives and that includes where we are each night.

Finally, it’s very important that when we pray about our home, we thank God for it.

No matter where you are staying, remember that if you have somewhere to sleep at night, you have good reason to be incredibly grateful. There are little things I would like to change about my house, and I’m sure that’s true about most people, but I try to remember that not everyone has a safe place to be. Maybe today would be a good time to pray for those who don’t have safe housing tonight.

God,

Thank you tonight for a place that I can feel safe. Thank you for somewhere I can live with my family, a place that has what I need. I ask you today that you remind me often to be grateful for what I have when I feel like I want something different. I ask that you protect my home and everything in it from anything that would harm or destroy it. I ask for the structure to stay sound and that everything works properly without issue for years to come.

God, tonight, as I get ready to go to sleep, I ask that you bring peace into my home. I ask you to guide my family in any move we may feel like we should make in the future, and if that happens, help us to find the place you have for us. Protect us here now, and in the future. Lastly, please protect those who do not have somewhere to stay and help guide them somewhere safe. God, bring peace to them wherever they are and reach your hand out to those who need you.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
