30 Days of Prayer- Day 18- Finances

Sometimes, when it comes to money, we need to have faith that things will work out alright. Each of us has a different financial situation, and maybe that situation has changed for you over time.

This post is a hard one to write, because I realize that everyone looks at money a little differently.

We are all so different from each other, which is beautiful.

I remember a trip our family took one summer. We were on our way back home, and we had the opportunity to go and see the Statue of Liberty. We needed to decide if we were going to settle for the free look from a distance, or if we were going to pay to take the ferry across the harbor to Liberty Island. I was afraid of spending too much money with so many days left of the trip. My husband made the decision that we were going to take the ferry and not worry about spending the money on the tickets. He was so right, and I am so glad he made that call. Looking back on that trip, I am so incredibly thankful that we went over there. What an amazing view, and what an amazing experience. It was worth the expense. I doubt we will ever be back that way, and what an awesome experience for our family to see it close up. So, there are indeed times when we need to make those choices.

Day 17- Praying over your finances

No prayer series would be complete without touching on the area of finances. I think everyone I know has had some ups and downs in this particular area. In my adult life, I have had all different financial experiences. Making the choice to stay at home with the kids made us mostly a single income family of four. This was a choice that I do not regret one bit, and it made me very appreciative of the things that we had. Now, we’re back to a two income household with only one young adult to help support. And we’ve been a few places in between.

No matter what your financial situation is, God wants to take care of you. He knows that you have needs, and is always faithful to provide.

It is incredible to think back on all of the times that God provided for my family at exactly the time that we needed it. I have often thought about compiling a list of journal writings about all of the times God came through.

In the Bible, there are so many examples of God’s provision.Those stories are there to show us how gracious and loving our God is. He tells us to pray about everything.

Why should our finances be any different?

We do need to be mindful of the ways that we spend our money. I know that sometimes we want to purchase things for ourselves, and that is fine, most of the time. But, it is important that we guard our resources so that we have what we need. And it is important that we are aware of the ways that God would want us to spend our money.

On thing I want to mention here. I am a firm believer in tithing. I know that not everyone feels this way. I believe the Bible is clear in giving examples first fruits offerings. We have tried to consistently do that in our own lives. It is a hard habit to start if you have not, but it can be a great blessing if you make a decision to do what you believe God wants you to do in this area. Ultimately, everyone needs to make their own decision about if they are going to tithe.

Whatever choices you are making with your finances, let God guide those decisions.

Pray over all aspects of your money, your savings, you purchases. It is just another part of our lives that we can bring to the Lord.

My prayer for today;

Dear God,

Thank you for providing for my family. I ask that you continue to help guide us in our purchases. I pray that you help us to know what to spend and what to save. I pray that you protect us against the devil’s attempts to steal our resources, and I ask that you help us to know how to spend what you have given us. Thank you for helping us with the decisions we have already made. I ask for you to continue to care for us and provide for our every day needs.

Amen
