Relationship with God

30 Days of Prayer- Day 2- Protection

Welcome back to Day 2 of the 30 Days of Prayer series. If you didn’t get a chance to see Day 1, it was posted in June, so you can find it there. If you are here for the second day, thanks so much for joining me!

We started this series by praying over our relationship with God. As we make a consistent effort to stay connected to Him in prayer, we are hopefully going to start thinking of even more ways that we can pray over our lives.

Day 2- Prayer for Protection

Today, we are going to focus on protection. Sometimes, when we start to make changes in our lives, things can get in the way of those changes. I’m sure we all have a story about a time in our lives that we tried to do something new and then we got turned away just long enough to miss out on the follow-through.

One way we can pray for protection in our lives is to ask God to help us stay focused on what He wants us to do, instead of becoming distracted by things we shouldn’t be doing.

Pray for protection against distractions

My mind tends to wander when I sit in my garden. I go out with the best intentions to read or study sometimes, and I end up watching birds, checking emails, or even occasionally getting up to pick a weed or two. I love looking around when I’m sitting out there, and there are so many critters and insects to look at! Admittedly, I always feel the need to bring my devices outside with me “just in case,” and they also can become a distraction for me.

I believe that sometimes, distractions keep us from the very best that God has for us in our lives.

Even good things in our lives may not be the best things. I’ve been trying to make decisions lately about how to spend my time, and what commitments to take on in this season. A lot of good opportunities have come up and I’m taking on some of them, but others, maybe they just aren’t for me.

Asking God to help guide our decisions day by day is a good thing to do in your prayer time.

I’m going to pray today that I can stay committed to the things I am called to do right now and save the rest for later.

Prayer for protection of our minds and our hearts

We connect with a lot of people every day. Sometimes words can hurt our feelings, sometimes we see or hear something that creates anxiety or stress, and we can, and should, ask God to protect our minds. We can ask God to help us to stay calm so we can get through our daily lives with a strong mind and a peaceful heart.

I am going to talk more about praying for peace later in the series.

For today, pray that God protects your mind and your heart, so you stay strong and in the right state of mind to handle life gracefully.

We are so much stronger than we believe sometimes, and it is always good to keep that in mind when things get heavy!

If you have any other more specific prayer needs for protection, today is a perfect day for those prayers.

My prayer for today looks like this:

Dear God,

I ask you today for protection over my mind, my heart and my commitment to praying every day for the next 30 days. God, I ask that you help me to stay focused and fill my mind with the thoughts that you want there. I pray that the distractions don’t get in the way of the time I am giving you this month.

Amen
