Today we’re going to pray over the health of the children in your life. If you have your own children, you can pray for them today. If not, consider praying for a child you know who could use extra prayer in this area. For the parents of children who are dealing with health issues, life is incredibly challenging. Include those parents as part of your prayer today as well. Pray for the finances, the strength and the wisdom to handle their specific challenges.
Whatever your own life experience, there are so many ways to bring your prayers to God when it comes to the health and well-being of the children in your life.
Day 20- Praying over the health of the children in your life
We’ve covered health quite a bit already in this series, so today, we will say some of those same prayers over the kids we know too.
If you have healthy children, or if the children in your life are healthy, that is a great thing to be thankful for.
I remember raising our children, watching out for them and just trying to keep them safe. It’s a full time job! The children around us could all benefit from someone who prays for their safety. For the younger ones, pray that they remain healthy at home and while they are in school. Pray they are protected from harm when they travel over summer vacation and when they play sports.
For the older ones, ask God to take care of their bodies as they grow and mature. Pray that they learn how to take care of themselves so they can stay fit and active, and that they learn to love nutritious food and avoid unhealthy choices when they are old enough to take care of themselves. Pray that they have healthy boundaries in their lives so they stay emotionally healthy as well.
If this prayer focus is hard for you, let me encourage you.
I was having some trouble writing this one today, because the topic is so broad. Sure, I know my own kids, and can come up with plenty to pray for them. I know what kinds of things they do and how to pray for them, but the children around me are a little bit harder to pray for. I always want to pray intentionally, not just repeating the same things over and over. It helps me be more connected to what I am praying if I am more specific. It helps me not to wander off in my thoughts.
It helped to me to go back to something I started doing a little while ago. It really opened things up for me today and got me moving forward again.
I used to do most of my prayer and devotional time in the morning. I would grab a cup of coffee and go sit somewhere comfortable with my books, my pens, and my journal. I would sit down and whenever I would close my eyes to pray, I would often fall asleep. This was not very fruitful! I started something new a few years ago, to record my thoughts. Because I type much faster than I write, I would sit down at the computer and type what was on my heart. Sometimes I would begin to type out my prayers too. Because I was able to type as fast as I was thinking, I suddenly felt like I had so much more to pray. Everything that came to mind could spill out all over the keyboard and instantly translate on the screen in front of me!
Time after time, I would sit and tap away on the keys and the prayers would just begin to flow.
I realized, that once I was able to commit to the process, there was no limit to the things I could think of to bring to God. There were so many things I wanted to pray about. I also realized that when I prayed, I found lots things I wanted to thank God for too.
So, do whatever helps you when you’re having a hard time thinking about how to pray for someone. Sometimes, it just takes a little nudge to find those things that you have on your heart that you want to pray.
If you are finding it hard to think of prayers today, think of all the kids in your life, the littlest ones to the oldest ones. They have a lot of the same needs you do. They want to feel safe, protected, and healthy too, just like you. Imagine a day in the life of the neighbor kid, the newborn across the street, the daughter of the person you live with, or the little ones who sit in the back corner at church on Sunday.
How can we pray about the health of those young ones?
Then, pray about those things that come to your mind. They are all such a blessing, and they need our prayers too.
Dear God,
I thank you for all of the children in my life. Thank you for young people in my family. Thank you for all the young people at our church, at work, and in my daily life. I ask today, that you protect these young people. Bless them all with healthy bodies and healthy minds. The ones I know who have health challenges, I pray that you put the right people in place for healing and restoration of their bodies. I pray Lord for anyone seeking answers to any unanswered health issues for their children, that you reveal those things to them. Bring the right people into the situation so that those issues will be quickly resolved. Protect the young people I know today. Keep them safe. Surround them with angels and keep them from stumbling. Keep them mentally alert and bless them all with strong bodies. Lord, I pray for them to be emotionally healthy as well.
God, I ask a special blessing of protection over the parents of the children in my life. God, I pray that they are covered in your love, protected, and strengthened today in Jesus’ name,
Amen
