30 Days of Prayer- Day 26- Your World

If my people pray….

We all share the same world. No matter what language we speak, no matter what we look like, no matter what time of day or what season it is where we live, one thing stays the same….we are all part of the same world. And we should pray for that world, together.

In 2 Chronicles, the Lord appears to Solomon in the night after the dedication of the Temple. The first thing he says to him is “I have heard your prayer.”¹  2 Chron. 7:12 (partial). Another one of the things He says is this:

“if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”¹ 1 Chronicles 7:14

While God said these words to Solomon in reference to a different time and place, the God of today is the same God from long ago. I believe these words are still true for us today. It is important that we lift our world (and all of the people in it), up to God in prayer.

This prayer focus can be easily overlooked. I admit it, I don’t usually think of praying on such a large scale. In the preparation for this week’s posts, I tried to pay closer attention to the around me. I saw people driving, people at work, and people in videos and pictures on the internet. They all seem so different. I started thinking that all of these people, no matter how different they seem, are part of God’s plan.

It’s so easy to distance ourselves from people we don’t know.

Sometimes, when we see strangers we think:

They don’t dress like we do.

They are a different age.

They have different lifestyles.

They are probably from a different culture.

They must be from a different country.

They can’t understand what I’m going through.

No matter what you may think about those around you, they are all God’s children. We all have at least one thing in common.

God made us all different, but He chose to put us all here.

Think about that.

When He created the universe, He put millions of stars in the sky. He put our planets around our sun, and then, he put our sun and planets inside a much larger galaxy, which is inside an even larger universe. He could have separated us out onto different planets. But that’s not the way it happened. He knew we would be different. He knew that we wouldn’t always see eye to eye. He could have made us all the same, but He didn’t.

Think back to the garden of Eden. Disagreements have been around since the beginning of time. Adam and Eve’s children started things off having issues with each other.

Throughout the book of Genesis, time after time, there were conflicts and disagreements. People have been having problems with one another since almost the beginning of time.

But, we are all here. Sharing the same world. On purpose. And it’s all part of His plan.

Day 16- Praying for your world, and the people in it.

The last couple of days we started to pray for our surroundings, like our neighbors and our communities. Today, let’s pray for our world.

Let’s pray today for healing between countries.

There seems to be a little more tension between certain countries right now that we haven’t had in recent years. Sure, there is always some kind of conflict it seems, but lately, I feel like the political issues are a little more frightening. We should pray for peace among the nations and their people.

Let’s pray for wisdom on the part of world leaders.

The people in charge of making the decisions about how to govern different countries need prayer for wisdom. We can also pray that they have discernment when dealing with each other. Only God knows His plan for the different parts of our world. But, we can pray for people from all around the globe as well as those living right next door.

There are also issues going on in our environment.

When we think of praying for our land, we can also consider the health of our planet. Regardless of how you feel about all the political debates about the health of our world, I think we can all agree that pollution exists, and that people contribute to pollution in some way.

I would like to pray for the health of this planet I call home.

I’d like to pray that God helps us to know how we can better respect the land He has given us. My heart is that we could live here and not make as big of a mess, even if it does just mean that people stop littering. We can pray that people become more aware of how they treat the soil and the water too so we can preserve what is already here.

I believe that certain resources have been placed here to be used by us, because that was God’s intention. Will you pray with me that we use what God gave us in a way that respects what we have so that we will have what we need for years to come?

Pray that the people in our world learn to know how to put their trust in God.

God is the creator of the heavens and the Earth. He is the one who Has the answers to the questions we ask. Let’s pray today that the people of our world can come to know him. No matter where they come from, pray that God is revealed to them and that they see who He is and learn how to have faith in who he is.

Dear God,

Today’s prayer is so heavy on my heart. It seems an impossible task to pray for my world. It is so big. Please help me to know what to ask of you. Lord, please help us to learn to love each other. Please help our countries to find ways to get along better. You know your plan for our world. I ask you to teach us how to rely on you more to take care of this beautiful planet. Make yourself known to each one of us God. Give us grace. Give us mercy, and help us to care about each other and how to trust in you more. Help us to know how to put our hope in you God.

Amen
