We are all unique in our own ways. Some of us are created to be great public speakers, some of us aren’t. I know which category I fit into!!
Some people are amazing with numbers, others are great artists, caregivers, or administrators. There are numerous ways people are gifted. If we look in the Bible, there are multiple examples of people who were chosen for a particular time or place.
Moses was the one who was to go lead the children of Israel out of Egypt, but Aaron went along with him to speak for him, because he was a gifted speaker. (Genesis 3-4)
Joseph was chosen to be the coordinator for Pharaoh during the Egyptian famine. And Joseph was amazing at the job. (Genesis 41)
The 12 disciples were very different people, with very personalities and giftings. Jesus chose them all. All 12, chosen for a purpose, each for a particular reason. (Luke 5, Matthew 10, Mark 2-3)
What are you good at? What do you think God is calling you to do?
Is there something you feel drawn to that you think you were made to do here on this Earth? Do you have a vision in your heart that you feel you want to pursue?
Day 29- Praying about your giftings
Today, I want to pray about our giftings. You were created to be unique, with a certain personality, and a set of skills to help you be who you God made you to be. If you don’t know what you are good at, ask God to help you figure that out.
If you know what you like to do, but don’t know how that could translate into serving Him, that is something you can pray about today too. If you know exactly what you were put here to do, but are struggling to move forward because of time, finances, or opportunity, today is the day to bring that to the Lord and lay it down at His feet.
Be ready.
Looking back to a year ago, when I started down the path to building this website and writing a blog, it’s incredible how things progressed and how God’s timing played into everything. I had no idea when I first started to search for a web hosting platform, that I would spend so much time working out the details.
There were a lot of things I didn’t realize needed to be done.
At the time, I was only working a part time job, and had a relatively calm life. But I felt I needed to move forward, so I got things started. A year later, I am working full time, taking online courses and have many other commitments in my life that I did not have before. Had I not started working on the project when I did, it would have taken me so much longer to complete.
God’s timing is perfect.
Don’t be afraid to do something you feel led to do. If you have something on your heart that you think God put there, ask Him to help you know what is the next step. If you feel like the time is right, start to move forward. It’s okay to move slowly. If you feel like it’s time, just begin.
Do you know what you are gifted to do, but don’t know how to move forward?
Today, ask God to help you to know what to do to fulfill His calling on your life. If you already have an idea about what He wants you to pursue, but you are unsure where to turn, ask God for His leading and guidance.
If you don’t know what your giftings are, you can pray about it.
I know that sometimes we hear stories about people doing these huge projects, or completing some grand undertaking. Every day in the media, we can find a story about someone who took an idea and made it into something big that accomplished something amazing. It can also make us feel like what we feel led to do is small.
Each and every one of us is important. Your gifts are so valuable. Each of us is special, and each calling significant.
Have you ever wondered about your calling? Do you long to figure out what your giftings are? Are you good with people? Can you play music or sing? Do you have a story to tell in a book, or maybe something you feel like you could speak about to a large audience? Maybe, you are great at coordinating projects, and would like to serve in the community or in a church or other organization? Do you know a lot about computers? Maybe someone could use your help.
Many people are called to work with children or young adults. Some people are great teachers, while others are better at doing outreach to people in need. Certain people are good at comforting those in need, or those who have health challenges.
Doing errands, giving rides to people who need them, and little things, like mowing grass and shoveling snow are such a help to people. Being a good neighbor to an elderly person is a blessing to them. Serving others this way is a gifting too.
For some, bringing order to things, or even cleaning and restoration work is their niche. What is your passion?
In the Bible, it talks about spiritual giftings in this way:
1 Corinthians 12:27-28
“Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.”¹
What do you think you were created to do?
Pray today that God shows you how to discover your giftings. We are all made so different, and we have talents that we can share and use for God’s plan.
My prayer for today:
Dear God,
Thank you for the giftings you have given me. If there is something I need to do, I ask you to give me the energy to do what it takes to get to where you want me. Please give me the ability, the wisdom, and the finances I need in order serve you according to your plans.
Thank you for the people you have put in my life to help me better understand what I may be good at, and what I may be called to. I ask you to help keep my focused on where you are leading. If I get distracted, I ask you to help bring me back to the path you want me to take.
Give me the motivation to continue to learn and to understand the things you want me to do in my life. Also, help me to help others who may need encouragement in their own lives, on the way to where you are leading them.
Lord, thank you for the blessings you have given me, and the comfort you bring as I step out into this next stage of my life.
Amen
