Hello! And welcome back for day 4 in the “30 Days of Prayer” series. So far, we’ve stayed closer to home in praying over ourselves. Now I’m going to discuss a little more of our personal surroundings as well.
These days, the world can find us anywhere.
I remember going up to a cabin in the summer and the only way to talk on the phone was to go outside, sit on the deck of the neighboring cabin and talk on an rotary phone that was attached to the wall by a cord! Maybe some of you remember things like that too. It was a different lifestyle. Getting away was truly getting away. The conveniences of the digital world are amazing, and such a blessing, but there are things that have changed dramatically since I was little.
We exist in a time where we can communicate in ways that most of us never imagined, but the sad part about it is that we aren’t able to find quiet time without being intentional about it.
Last time we talked about praying over our physical health.Today our focus is something that can also impact our health and well-being….I’m going to talk about peace.
Day 4 – Prayer for peace
For me, this is a big one. My physical health is sometimes impacted by my lack of peace. My life has begun a new phase. With both children graduated from High School, I recently starting to work outside the home again, so there are a lot of unanswered questions about the future. In the past, the main focus in my life was raising children. Now, there are many different paths to choose from. This has left me wondering what I should do with my time and energy. It’s almost a whole new life.
When there were little kids in the house, I didn’t spend a lot of time thinking about what would come next. Back then, I remember hearing from women who were in their 40s. They would talk about this stage of their lives, and it seemed so far away for me. If you are a young mother, know that these days of raising babies will not last forever. Love the stage you’re in.
Each of us has a different stage of life we are walking towards. For you, maybe it is a job change, a new marriage, a move coming soon, a new set of school classes, a new baby in the house, or even one on the way. We each go through different times as we get older.
Each step of our lives there are new opportunities and new steps to take that can leave us wondering what direction we should be facing.
There are a lot of articles on the internet about fear and anxiety. As I get older, I am struck by how much the enemy tries to get me all tangled up in anxious thoughts. It has been a constant fight over the last few years between trusting God and being so overcome by my thoughts that I want to crawl in bed and cover my head with the blankets.
If any of you are in that same situation, you understand exactly what I am talking about. We were not meant to live this way. We want to learn to put our hope in God, not in our surroundings.
I think back to a time when I was a barefoot girl running around in the backyard and I kind of miss that peace. There was a time full of innocence where there wasn’t a whole lot to worry about. Maybe you sometimes feel this way, but we are created to grow, to learn, and to move into those new phases of our lives and we are not created to live with fearful and anxious thoughts.
“We are not created to live with fearful and anxious thoughts.”
I want to encourage you today to pray for peace.
For those of you who do not suffer from any form of fear or anxiety, pray for a different kind of peace in your life. Pray for peace in your own personal situation. Maybe things are a little chaotic at work, with family, or in your neighborhood. Pray for continued peace in your surroundings. Pray over the things that you find distracting and ‘noisy’ around you. Maybe there is even a difficult road you take to work in the morning. Pray that things go smoothly each day, and that you arrive at work relaxed and ready to take on the day’s challenges. If you stay at home, pray that things are quiet and peaceful (yes, it can happen mom, even with little ones in the house). And lastly, if you know someone who could use peace in their lives or in their hearts, pray for them too. Let today be a reminder to include those around you in prayer as well.
God,
Thank you for this day. Thank you that we are able to be grateful when things seem difficult, as well as when times are more settled. I thank you for the ability to calmly sit and think about the things that are going well in my life. I ask that you bring peace to my world right now, and that you continue to calm the seas as Jesus did in the books of Matthew and Mark. Give hope to my friends today, and continue to part the waters in my life as you did in the days of Moses in the book of Exodus. Thank you Lord,
Amen
