Hope for the Hurting Joy and Encouragement Relationship with God Relationships with Others

30 Days of Prayer- Day 5- Heart Healing

Today, I want to go a little deeper and talk about praying for the healing of our hearts.

Let me just say first that I am not a professional counselor in any way, so if you need help getting over something, it is totally okay to seek outside professional help. I know many people who have been helped by counseling. There is wisdom in finding a trained therapist who can help you talk through your problems. It is a wonderful way to find healing if you need it.

I think it is safe to say that we all have wounds. Some are from a long time ago, and maybe some are more recent. We’ve all likely been hurt at one point by the world around us and the events in our lives. Maybe it is the loss of someone close to you. Perhaps it is something we thought would happen that didn’t, or something we are waiting for that hasn’t happened yet.  Or is there something else?

Day 5- Prayer for healing in our hearts

Sometimes when we have had experiences that have hurt us, we don’t realize that it may have changed the way we look at the world. This morning, while I was sitting at my desk, I was checking on something online and realized I needed an update to an app I was using. The photos wouldn’t load, and I had to go download the update to fix it. At first, I tried to ignore the missing pictures and just tried to read the information instead, but I realized that this wasn’t a long term solution.

Our hearts can feel a little like an outdated app sometimes.

We ignore the feelings we have about someone who may have treated us poorly, but the feelings are still there. We pretend that we don’t care about something that happened, because it wasn’t that big of a deal. We decide to just “suck it up” because we are adults. But with some things, we may have to deal with the problem differently. I am NOT suggesting that every little annoyance needs to be brought front and center.

Sometimes we just need time to process things and we can be free of them.

I know for myself, I will get over little things, so there is no reason to go spout off about every little harsh glance. But sometimes, things need to be talked through so that the hurt can be healed.

We aren’t always able to talk through something that has happened.

Someone you wish you could talk to may no longer be in reach. I had something happen after my Grandmother passed away that made my heart very sad. Some things were brought to light that I sure wish I had heard before she was gone. I am not able to talk to her about what was told to me, and so I have brought it to God in prayer. I asked for his peace over my heart and asked for forgiveness for whatever role I may have played in the matter. It was truly the one thing I knew to do, and I found relief in it.

I am not qualified to tell you what you should do about the hurts in your life, but I know God is.

God knows what happened, and He is sometimes the only one you can tell. And that works too. So today, set your heart before the Lord. Ask Him to help you heal from anything that may be lingering in your heart. I do not believe I have the answers to every problem in my life, but I do believe that I can find healing where I need it when I bring my problems to Him.

In Luke chapter 4, verses 18-19, Jesus says:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”¹

Jesus came to set us free. He came to earth to heal our broken hearts. His coming paved the way for each of us to have a relationship with our Heavenly Father.

God,

I ask that today the hurts in my heart start to heal. You know the things that I am talking about. You knew about them before I started praying today. I ask you to please help me to know when to lean on you and when to go to someone about my sad feelings. You are the healer of the broken, and you have never left my side.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
