Hopefully by now, the time we’ve spent in prayer has been helpful, and you are starting to get into the habit of praying more regularly. For those of you who have a solid daily prayer schedule, that is so awesome! I hope the first seven days of the series have been a blessing to you too. Sometimes when I spend time praying over personal concerns, I start to feel better about the things that have been bothering me. It helps me to process things, and if I’ve been hung up on anything, a few days of consistent prayer can bring me to a place where I feel like moving forward in a more productive way.
When we start to look straight ahead without a goal, sometimes it can be a little intimidating.
God is so great at knowing which direction we should be going. Reaching up to God when you feel like you need guidance is the safest and best place to turn.
After all, He has a plan.
Don’t forget that.
Today, let’s spend some time praying for guidance. That may include the things we are already working on. God is so faithful. When we are intentional about inviting Him into our decision making process, He is faithful to guide us through the upcoming turns in the road.
Day 8- Praying for guidance
Are you looking at making a significant decision in your life? Maybe you need to ask God to direct your steps. Do you feel a big change is coming? Or, are you wondering what is next for you? It is important to make sure God is part of your plan first, before you make that move.
There are times when we lose our way…..I know, I’ve done it.
I’ve been known to get a small nudge in one direction and all of a sudden, I’m already thinking out the next three years! Sometimes, we try and take an idea that we have and create our own plan, and let me be the first to tell you, that can be risky. I’m thankful that God can fix our missteps, but it’s important to remember that He can guide us BEFORE we take those first steps too.
God loves us, and He knows where we are going.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 says,
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”¹
In the surrounding verses, Jeremiah brings to the exiles in Babylon (and also to us), the words of the Lord, which speak of prosperity and restoration.
Today, ask God to help you to find the place He has for you. Ask that he leads you in the direction He wants you to go. And most importantly, ask Him for the patience to be still if He wants you to wait for your next move.
Dear God,
I have many questions about the next few years. I am not sure what you have planned for me. I know that you love me, and that you want the best for me. Help me to pray about my direction in life. Help me to stay patient in the waiting, knowing that you are the Creator of the Universe, and that you know what is best for me. I lay my life down at your feet and ask you to protect me in my decision making, and calm my heart. Thank you for always being with me, and always picking me up when I have made a mess of things. I ask now, that you guide my next steps. Help me to know what you want me to do in my life, and help me to trust you.
Amen
