Sometimes the best way to get started on something big is to just start at the beginning.
“In the Beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
One step at a time, God created everything you see around you, and then everything you can’t see around you. He created the Sea, He created the ground you walk on wherever you are, and the sun, moon and stars that hang high above the Earth to light our way. Consider all the mountains and valleys, rivers and lakes, ponds and pools, and all the creatures in them. Each tree and plant, the grasses and wildflowers of the fields, He made them all. That’s quite something to think about! All the animals, the birds, the snails, worms, and insects were all created by our Father in Heaven. After the animals and the plants and waters, He created the first man and woman. Every living thing, each with its own color, design and purpose, they all walk and fly above the surface of our planet because God started on that first day.
God created one thing at a time, and then moved on to the next and the next until He was finished.
It took time. And He’s God. Now, we are only human, but we are likely to have a much smaller list in front of us today. I tend to become bogged down by the details of a project, and quickly become weighed down by the size and scope of what I need to accomplish. Maybe you don’t have a big assignment in front of you right now. Maybe you just have to make it through a few things this week. Some days I have a lot to take care of and others I can’t believe how much there is. Sometimes it all adds up so fast that it suddenly feels like it will never get done. It’s good to remember that when there is a big job to finish, we can only really do one thing at a time.
What’s in front of you today? Take a breath. You’re only human. Start at the beginning…. And then just take it one step at a time.
